why does my cursor move spontaneously around the document?

When typing in microsoft Word, my cursor spontaneously moves around the
document, meaning that if I'm not carefully monitoring the screen all of the
time, I end up interpolating text into previous sentences. I am using a
Fujitsu-Siemens laptop computer, with built in touchpad (and no wheel-mouse).
Is there something wrong with my version of word, or is it my computer
that's faulty?

Most often this problem arises from touchpad sensitivity being set too high.
Brushing the touchpad with the heel of your hand (or possibly even air
moving over it) can cause the insertion point to move. You can adjust the
sensitivity through Control Panel.
