Why does MS Word freeze when new document is started? It doesn't.

Why does MS Word freeze when new document is started? It doesn't when
existing document is opened and modified.

Maybe the template that is being used for the new document is corrupt. If
it is the normal.dot template, rename it to normal.old and then restart Word
and try again.
