Why does .fp_folder_info appear in FrontPage

I've been trying to upload my webpage to Comcast with no luck. I've
discovered the file .fp_folder_info is preventing the upload. It seemed to
happen when I added a picture and text box to the web page but I'm not sure.
I need to know why it's being created and how to prevent it from being
created. If it can't be deleted is there a way to have it renamed within
FrontPage. I tried to delete it and it reappears. I renamed it and the
picture disappears from the web page. The bottom line is Comcast will not a
allow a file that starts with a dot (period) to be uploaded. Any thoughts?

Can't you take the period off the folder?

Rob: I don't recall ever seeing it, either. But, searching on Microsoft, I
find:
Shared Documents\_vti_cnf

Fp_folder_info

Metadata for the Shared Documents folder. Contains information such as
whether the folder contains a list, whether anonymous users can upload
documents, and so on.

If it is appearing because you have a text box, etc. (VML Graphics) then do not use them, and they
only work in IE browsers running under Windows.

Office program are called thickets. Thickets consist of multiple linked
files that together form the Web page.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm still not sure what to do about it. I'll try
to fugure out some workarounds.
 
well dunno if this will help, but maybe you could mark it Do Not Publish and see what happens.

A bit more information.....fp_folder_info isn't a folder but rather a file.
I've been working on my index page so the file appears in following location:

index_files
_vti_cnf
.fp_folder_info

When I send the file to notepad the following appears:

vti_encoding:SR|utf8-nl
vti_thicketdir:SW|Nativity/New Nativity
Website/NewNativityWebsitev02a/index.htm

If no one else is experiencing the problem there must be a way to turn it
off or find a work around.

It is a FP config file for a file you must have (or had) in your web and not a std FP generated file unless it is part of a hidden
thicket file (which it is in your case)

The _vti_cnf folders contain files by the same names as are in your corresponding web folders which FP uses to store info about the
files in your web to manage them.
There is a \_vti_cnf for every folder in you web
But FP will not display any files w/ a leading dot (as in a file or folder named: .fp_folder_info), so you are not seeing that file
in FP (even though FP is generating a config file for it) even though it is there

In your case it is a thicketdir (folder) named (.fp_folder_info) as a thicket related folder for the file named ".fp_folder"
FP also hides thicket folders. Thickets are created when Windows Explorer is set to manage File as Pairs
In order to delete the thicket folder you need to delete the file creating the thicket folder

You need to use Windows locally (or a 3rd party FTP on a server) to see the .dotfilenames and related thicket folder named
..dotfoldernames in your web and delete it
