Why does Excel Print Perfect Circles - 'Oval'!!

Hi All.
Perhaps someone has already found the answer to this problem but
cannot find it and neither can the experts in a Computer Magazine.

Excel 97 ~ 2000 insists on printing a perfect circle as an oval, cop
the circle to Word and it prints as a circle. I have tried this o
various machines with some using Office 2003 and all do the same, whic
seems very odd to me. As I was installing a new partition an
reinstalling all my programs I tried to print a circle from a fres
installation of Office 2000 in case something was corrupted and gues
what? I printed an oval circle. I have tried every permutation o
choices in properties and can only get close by changing the % of eac
size although this makes some odd shaped circles. I need to prin
specific circles of various sizes.

Is there a solution to this?

Thanks

It is my understanding that Excel only comes with "Oval" like you say.
When you select "Oval" from the AutoShapes, hold the Shift key down while
you drag to insert this Shape. Holding the Shift key should make it a
"Circle."

Ahh! I think I misread your question. You have the circle, but it doesn't
print as a "perfect" circle as in word. Hmmm. Don't know why.

Are you trying to print everything on one page
pages wide by pages tall

Are the shapes locked to the cells.

Hi Trapper,

I don't have a solution, but the problem is easy to reproduce.

In (Office XP)
Word Drawing toolbar Shift-draw a square > Print >
Excel Drawing toolbar Shift-draw a square > Print >

The Word document will print a square whereas the Excel document will print a
non-square rectangle.

I'm quite sure that there is an answer to this somewhere out there. I once saw
it in an off-topic comment but I can't find it. Very frustrating.

Hi.
Thanks for the replies, What I am trying to do is show on pape
telescopic tubing of specific sizes, from 1/8th to 7/8" so a section o
tube can be matched against the print to help someone get the righ
size!

I have drawn all the sections, which include squares, oblong, and pea
shapes but when these are 'imported from file' into the sheet th
circles go 'oval' and the oblongs get 'extended'.

Stick 'em in word and no problem......

I am printing as 100% with no scaling, I have tried locking, unlocking
resize, do not resize, nothing seems to print a perfect circle. I hav
no problem in CREATING the circle only printing it!!

Somehow I do not think I am going to win this one.....

Anyone with a contact at Microsoft Excel ?????
