why does Excel add more rows than I have selected

I am inserting rows on a spreadsheet. I am highlighting from the left hand
side of the sheet on the pre numbered column.
I high light 4 rows to insert and the spreadsheet inserts 30 +
What is wrong?

It sounds like the range of rows you are highlighting contains 26
hidden rows.

Do you have any hidden rows in that selection (either hidden manually or via
filter)?
