Why does an installed font work in Word but not in Outlook?

I have the font Gautami installed in the fonts folder and can use this font
in a Word 2003 document OK. In Publisher and Outlook (v 2003) the font is
displyed as a series of little boxes.

How can this be - is there a difference between Word and Publishre/Outlook
when it comes to fonts?
 
Are you using Word as an email editor? Otherwise, I don't think the default
text editor can display it.

I don't know enough about Publisher to comment. Perhaps it uses a different
set of fonts?

No. I'm using Outlook, so presumably using the default text editor for
Outlook as well which is different to Word. This just seems very odd. I would
have expected compatability across the entire Office Suite.

Any other suggestions most welcomre!
