why does a document change from .doc to .docm when using save as?

Sometimes when I save a Word document to a different drive the ending changes
from .doc to .docm. What does this mean? How can I get it back to a .doc
document?

The .docm extension is used for Word 2007 documents that contain macros.
Normal Word 2007 documents use the .docx extension.

The .doc ending, used by Word 2003 and earlier, can be used for documents
with and without macros, but you have to save the file in Word 97-2003
format.
