Why do we have to install .NET 2.0 on Vista?

3.5 is just an extension of 2.0. If you are being asked to install 2.0,
there's a problem.

Hi David,

I saw you posted the same question on MSDN forum:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/netfxsetup/thread/68367718-028
d-4384-a6e0-d04cc1528545

And I have replied there. Do you want to following up with that thread on
forum or with this one? Or both (I'll just copy & paste the same thing what
I said)?

Thanks,

Jie Wang

Note: MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 2 business days is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions. Issues of this
nature are best handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer
by contacting Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at
