Why do tiff images not appear when I download an e-mailed file?

The file was orinally on Apple Word and now i go to work on a PC version all
the images are missing. Please assist.
 
There are several possibilities;

First, go to Tools>Options>View & make sure there is no check in the box for
Picture Placeholders.

If that doesn't fix it, it is possible that the images were linked to in th
Mac file & were not brought along with the doc. Quite likely as TIFFs are
usually large files.

What does display where th images should be?
