Why do my Word documents close on their own?

Dear Sirs at Microsoft,
Whenever Im working on more than one Word document, editing or viewing, they
suddenly close together on their own, and this way any work not saved is
lost, along with the time consumed. How do I fix this problem? How do I
prevent my documents from closing on their own?
