WHY? do my shared borders go away?

OK..I know this is not supposed to happen. I have created a menu in shared
borders on the left. However, there are some pages where I decided that I
do not want the shared borders. So when I want to exclude the shared border
from a specific page.....and in spite of ENSURING that I check the button
that says CURRENT PAGE....it completely overwrites my "left.htm" to the
default NOTHING...ZIP... NADA. What was a 8k file before is now 1k. My menu
on the left is therefore gone from all 77 other pages!!! Thankfully I was
smart enough after getting screwed by this the first time to make a backup
of the left.htm file.

Don't tell me that FP2003 was designed with this ridiculous flaw. Is this
for real? This did not happen with FP2000

I THINK I follow you....ok...not really.

I have about 70-some pages with the same shared border...(menu on the
left)...in all of those pages, I have checked "Apply to Current Page" and NO
checkmark in the "Reset border for current page to web default". In fact,
on the couple of pages where I DON'T want the shared border, I have the same
settings...except I have unchecked "left". In Tools>Page Options>Authoring
Shared Borders is Unchecked.

I'm not clear on what should be checked and unchecked....and even though I
have no fear of the F1 button, I can only find very scant info.

Sorry...that doesn't do it. I did that and my left.htm reverted back to the
default blank page
