Shared Borders

I implement a shared left border and make sure I have selected "Apply to all
pages". I have my index.html page open when I do this. I have edited my
"left.htm" file in the "borders" folder and placed a small table there (1 R,
1 C, 50 pixels wide) and have placed a drop-down menu in this use AllWeb
Menus. It works fine on my "practice" site on my PC. However, when I do it
on the site I want to publish the shared border keeps disappearing from my
index.html. Any ideas why the shared border would not be appearing?

To have the _borders folder publish along with the rest, you need to be on
a server with the extensions running; otherwise you can publish it
manually - in the "publish" view (the two file lists - local and remote)
just select the folder, right click and select "Publish".

Note that if you make any changes to the border pages, then you have to
republish all files using that shared border (this is only the case where
the server extensions are not installed), otherwise publishing one page with
the borders where the border page itself has changed will effectively update
all the pages using that border.

The JavaScript must be added to all pages using the shared border or the JavaScript must be all
within the body section of the shared border page to be included in all other pages.

I probably over-complicated matters by adding the verbage about the menus in
the left shared border. The actual problem is with my home page
(index.html) open in FP03 I format a left shared border and apply it to all
the pages. I do this in design mode. When I preview the page the left
shared border is nowhere to be found. When I click on Format, Shared
Borders, the left shared border is not selected. I cannot figure out why it
is not "holding." I am not even publishing it live because I don't want to
corrupt my working copy on the actual web site (which has no left shared
border).

Make sure you have a web / site open and not just a page.

I have the entire site open in FP and have tried this with the index.html
open and again with no page open.

Do you have the site configured to use the FP extensions?

Yes. I'll give it another try later today. Thanks so much for responding.

Working now. I had to reset the shared borders on the index.html to the
default for the site. That recreated my left border, which I could then
work with, and it was retained. Not sure why I had to reset it, but it
works. Thanks to those of you who responded with advice.
