have the same problem
-----Original Message-----
I suddenly started seeing these L shaped brackets in the
corners of my documents that correspond to the locations
of the margins (they move with the margins). I can
sometimes make the ones on the upper part of the page
disappear, but mostly they are there and they are
annoying. I do not know why they started appearing,
cannot locate any information on what they are or how to
make them go away. Can anyone help? Thanks!!

The answer was almost certainly posted in the (now detached) post.

They are page layout marks associated with Asian languages and are similar
to crop marks. You need to disable support for Asian languages before they
will go away. If you need Asian language support you'll have to put up with
them.
(Windows > Start > Programs > Microsoft Office > Office Tools > Microsoft
Office language support)

I have two diff setups that behave differently

System running MS Word 2002. I cannot get rid of them and I know I have asian support.

System running MS Word 2003. They can be toggled using Tools/ Options/View, Text
Boundaries checkbox under Print View. The marks and the dotted line around body toggle
together. When using this checkbox on MS Word 2002 system, just the dotted lines are
affected.

This is a result of having support for Asian languages installed. Go to
Start | Programs | Microsoft Office Tools | Microsoft Office XP Language
Settings and disable support for any Asian language.
