Why do I have to select the whole word when bolding?

Hello,
I've always been able to just do Ctrl+B with the cursor anywhere inside a
word and it would go bold, but now that stopped working. I now have select
the word first, then do Ctrl+B. Any idea why?

Never mind, I found an answer in another post:

Tools > Options > Edit tab -- check "When selecting, automatically select
the entire
word"
