Why do I have to click the 'X' twice to close a program?

This happened after I did a clean install of Windows XP; I then
installed the usual programs that I use. This has never happened before and
I have the same programs installed as I did before.

Whenever I want to close a program or a window, most of the time I have
to
click on the 'X' twice to close it. Sometimes it closes on the first click
but not always.

Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?

Thank You

Kevin

Try Start, All Programmes, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to
Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Delete all
but the most recent Restore Point ( Start, Programs, Accessories, System
Tools, Disk Cleanup, More Options). Run Disk Defragmenter in Safe Mode.

Hope this helps.

I finally did all that and it worked, my programs now close on the first
click. Thank You

Thank you so much for your time.

After trying your solution, most of my programs and other windows now
close properly. However, I seem to be having the problem on internet pages
now; if I try to close them fast, it wont work. There seems to be a time
limit on closing windows. I can close 1 window per 2 seconds. I can click
several times during those 2 seconds but it wont close until 2 seconds has
elapsed. I used to be able to close windows as fast as I could click or
press alt + f4 (I have the same problem when pressing alt + f4 as well).

Do you have any other ideas?

Thank You

I just
upgraded to IE7, is that the way IE7 is?

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
