Why couldn't it be a server-side rule?

This is a very simple Outlook 2003 rule reading:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
from uuuuuuu
and with wwwwww in subject
permanently delete it
and stop processing more rules.

No matter how many times I re-create the rule, it insists it is a
client-only rule. Why?

I've also checked the information from the site
http://www.slipstick.com/rules/serverbased.htm but to me it is not having
any match with rules/actions that will stop it from being a server-rule.

Permanent deletes are client side based.

OE has the delete-from-server rule.
Outlook requires that ALL new messages get downloaded before processing
any rules against them (presumably you are not using Exchange in which
case your rule would be a server-side rule).

We ARE using Exchange Server with Outlook 2003 email client.

Do all these answers mean I haven't missed anything? Are you confirming
that I will not be able to make the specific emails to disappear without
having to download them by an email client?

Try this. Change it from permanent delete to just delete. Is it no longer
a client side rule? While I normally trust slipstick without question, I'm
pretty sure that they are wrong in this instance. Either that, or my memory
is. =)

Along with changing perm delete to just delete, also recheck the rule to
ensure that a clause like "mark as read" isn't included since that can
only be exercised at the client.
