Why can't someone open an Access file that I e-mailed them?

I e-mailed someone an Access file and they cannot open it. I even e-mailed
the file to myself and I cannot open the file. It will take you to the
Switchboard that I created and I get an error message. Why?

Version issue is possible, corruption is possible. Keep in mind that
often the read only switch is set when you e-mail something.

change the .mdb to .xxx then when they get it have them change it back to .mdb

I've been emailing them through gmail and they get corrupted that way.
Here's what I was doing:

Zip the file
Change the .zip to .txt so gmail doesn't kick it out
Tell the reciever to change it back to .zip and unzip it

The user can unzip it but the .mdb is corrupted after all this. I've
resorted to using a friend's FTP site. I'd recommend installing an FTP
server or paying for an FTP site.

Interesting, as I exchange a database with a client, frequently, using that
technique and gmail, and we've never experienced a corruption. Before trying
to open the received file, we right click and "unblock" the file, because
Access (or The System) has identified it came from a different computer.
