Why can't recurring events be archived?

Yearly I archive my calendar - but have noticed that recurring events (e.g.
birthdays...) are not copied across for the period being archived - this is
highly annoying and seems to be a serious ommission from the software.

The reason for this is (I believe) down to the fact that you're trying to
archive an active appointment/entry. I can vouch for a recurring event that
has ended but a birthday goes on every year and therefore if you change one
occurrance the rest changes. That's why you can't archive one occurrance.

That is fair enough but they should have configured the archive facility so
that it does not consider the attributes of the entries - at the end of the
day it should be taking just a snapshot of entries for the given archive
period and copying just those entries...
