Why can't I view two Word docs at the same time?

Please don't tell me they got rid of the ability to pull two Word docs apart?
I can't drag a document out of the stupid frame they're in. Excel used to be
like this, but Word had some flexibility. In desperation, I tried to launch
Word a second time, but of course that didn't work.

Why would they get rid of such a useful feature? I have a huge cut-and-paste
job to do and I want to drag one document over to my second monitor...the way
I've been doing it for years.

Please tell me I'm wrong and there's somewhere I can uncheck a box and pull
the documents into individual spaces?

Thanks.

I assume you are using Word 2007; if not, disregard everything that follows.
The following relates to cut and pasting (actually dragging) content from one
open document to another using a single monitor:

Make sure both documents you want to work with are the only documents that
are open

You can view two documents at a time - check tools > options > view >
windows in task bar (or in Word 2007 the essentially similar option in Word
options)
