Why can't I use a certain font in PowerPoint?

I have some fonts that PowerPoint uses without problems, but one font I'm
trying to use is non-functional in PowerPoint. When I select the font, the
type doesn't change. I have the font properly installed and I can use it in
other Office programs (like Publisher), but PowerPoint doesn't like it for
some reason. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have an HP Laserjet 5P attached locally to my computer and I just
re-installed the driver and made sure that it was set as my default printer.
I still can't use the font I want in PowerPoint. Here's the font I'm trying
to use: http://www.dafont.com/fiesta.font. It is a TrueType font and I've
made sure that it's properly installed. It comes up on the list of available
fonts in PowerPoint, but when I highlight a section of text and try to change
the font, it just stays with whatever font I had before. I've tried doing
this to both a template and a presentation file and it happens with both.
I've used this exact font in MS Publisher with no issues. Any other ideas
about what might be wrong?

See this for how-to. Install this printer driver as a test to see if it
resolves the issue.

Hm. I don't know what the problem is, but I can confirm that it doesn't work
here.

I saw something similar another time with a different font. If I recall
correctly, in that case it showed up in PPT, but not in the PPT Viewer.
(Maybe Steve will remember what font it was -- my brain seems to have lost
that information.)

I don't have any suggestions other than to use a different font, sorry.
