Why can't I select text in an incoming e-mail?

For a while now, Outlook no longer allows me to select text in an incoming
message to copy. Instead, the cursor becomes a hand when I place it in the
incoming mail window, acting like a panning feature to move the text up and
down.

Outlook 2007? Above the scroll bar you'll see a hand icon to enable/disable
panning. Sounds like you have it enabled now.
The panning hand will show when you have Tablet PC features enabled in
Windows.
