Why can't I see text in messages now

As from a few moments ago I now cannot see the text in ANY messages (inbox,
outbox, deleted, sent etc) even though they have been there for a long time.
Suddenly they display as blank with empty .txt and .htm attachments. However,
if I highlight a message and look at its properties, then "details" and then
"message source" I can actually see the message text amongst the various
headers etc.

What have I done wrong??

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them tend to cause
assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

Is there an AntiVirus/AntiSpam scanning application in this picture
anywhere?

While I doubt that AVG is the problem, make sure that email scanning is
turned off in AVG.

Hi,

Turned it off - no difference! WHat I have noticed though are the following
"features" about the situation:

1. A "blank" email with no attachments originally appears with two
attachments one an .htm extension and the other a .txt extension in the form
att00068.txt and att00071.htm as in one case. When I try to open these
attachments from the email I get an error saying Windows can't find it but it
shows the attachment it cannot find as numerically one more than it shoud be
(eg att00069, in this example). If I save the attachments they are similarly
numbered differently but they can be opened. Both are the same and seem to be
the email text!

2. If an email ha s an image as an attachment then it too cannot be opened -
not found again! However, I can save it with the name it came with and then
open it from its saved place.

I am baffled! Apart from restoring the system as delivered I do not know how
I can reinstall Windows Mail if thats what it needs.

Thanks for the help so far

Mike

Hi,

Yet another twist to this! If I compose a message in Windows Mail I can
obviously se the text as I'm composing it. However when I look in the sent
items box the message is blank but with the usual attachments. If the
recipient is using Outlook Express they see the message as it appears in the
sent box. However, if I send myself such a message and recieve it in
Thunderbird it is perfect! As it is with all the others I get!

So why don't I change to ThunderbirD? Firstly dont really want an extra
program cluttering up the system and secondly I am having trouble with it
too! When I try to send a message it says my Temporary Directory settings are
wrong and refuses to send it!

Damned if I do and damned if I don't so to speak!

Message Appears Blank and Has an ATT000XX.txt or ATT000XX.htm Attachment
