why can't I see my slide show in powerpoint?

I cannot see any of my slide shows, pressing F5 or Slide Show . View Slide
show does not work - it brings up nothing, but in the task bar there is a new
tab saying "Power Point Slide Show [name of file]" and I cannot press it etc,
finding it tough to check slide shows before I show them on a different PC.

Your show is being shown, but it is being sent to the external monitor that
you do not have connected.

Click on the new slideshow item in the task bar, hit escape to end the
slideshow (the task should go away), then select

SlideShow => Set Up Show => And in the 'Multiple monitors' section, change
the pulldown to 'Primary Monitor'.
