Why can't I Search User Defined Fields

How can I search my contact database for a word that is in one of the user
defined fields and have all contacts with that word show up in the search
results?

I have created a few user defined fileds in Contacts using the field chooser
window for simple text information. When I search for that text, the contacts
that contain the text in the user defined fields don't show up in the search
results

I am using 2003 and searching using the "look for" command

To search custom fields in Outlook 2003, use Advanced Find.

Thank you - using Advance Find, Look for: Contacts, and the Contacts Tab - I
am not able to choose the "User Defined Fields in the "In" drop down box.

I see that I can create a custom search on a field by field bases in the
advance Tab.

1. Can I search all user defined fields to see if the word is contained in
any other them, verses all of them?

2. Can I search all fields for a particular word (user defined included)?

Are the fields defined in the folder you want to search? That's a requirement. Add them if not.

Yes the fields are defined in the folder I am searching and I can search them
one at a time using the advance find - Advance Tab. I would like to do a
global search that tells me if the word I am looking for is in any of the
user defined fields and I can't do this in one operation.

If I add more than one field to the advance criteria the computer assumes
that it is a criteria that the item is in every field not in any field.

How can I search all User Defined Fields for a word in one operation versers
one operation per field?

Outlook 2003 can't do that. Outlook 2007 can, with its indexed search feature.
