Why can't I open PowerPoint Viewer 2003 on my Windows 98 SE syste.

I believe that I have successfully installed PowerPoint Viewer 2003 on my
Windows 98 SE system but it will not open. I get a message which says
"Unable to open Viewer. This version only works on Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000
and XP." I have also installed the upgraded Windows Installer for Windows
98. Thank you.

Check to make sure that your version of Windows is really 98SE and not 98.

Thanks, Bill. I'm definitely running 98SE. I've bookmarked your site and
will take a good look at it.

This is probably a good time to mention that I'm up-to-date with all updates
and Service Packs for both Windows and Office.

Thanks, Echo. I did download the updated installer and got the message,
"Application already exists." So, I guess it was already there, perhaps as
part of a Service Pack.

I have encountered exactly the same problem and tried all the things you
have. Have you found a workaround yet?

I can't remember or find any information about this -- maybe one of the
other MVPs can, though. Anyway, ISTR that there is an issue with this
particular installer looking for a specific DLL file or something. There was
a new release of the PPT 2003 Viewer in just the past few days. You might
try re-downloading and re-installing. Not sure if the new release takes care
of this or not, though.

If it doesn't, the only solution I know is to wait until there's yet another
release.
