Why Can't I Open Links with IE8 and Outlook 2003?

I recently upgraded to IE8 and now I cannot open any links from within
Outlook unless I have IE8 open.

If I have IE8 open, it all works perfectly. If I have IE8 closed, then I
get two windows. One blank that just says 'connecting' and the other goes to
my home page.

Does anyone have any ideas - because it's REALLY annoying! :O)

Thanks,

Steve

Try rsetting IE as your default browser in Windows.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I have tried all that, I have reinstalled Outlook and IE8 but it has made no
difference. All of the settings that should be there are there. It's weird!

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Uninstalling/reinstalling rarely fix problems like this unless you clean the
registry before reinstalling.

If the steps at http://www.slipstick.com/problems/link_restrict.htm aren’t
fixing it, you'll need to go to the IE groups and see what they have to
suggest since it is a problem with IE, not Outlook. I'm not aware of any
solutions beyond what is on that page (or it would be on the page) - based
on messages sent to the webmaster, Set Program Access in the Control Panel
(http://www.slipstick.com/problems/link_restrict.htm#set) fixes the most
stubborn cases.

Hi,

I tried copying the Registry Key detailed in the solution again from a
different PC and this time it has worked and the problem is solved.

Many thanks!

Steve
