Hard to say, since you haven't told us what you're doing in the first place.
So let's start with --

How are you inserting it onto your slide?

If you go to Start/Run and type in mplay32.exe does it play in that media
player?

Are you using PP 2000? If so, Insert/Movies and Sounds/Play CD. Fill in
basic options and also work with custom animation media settings too. These
steps tells PowerPoint how much of what song you want to play on each slide,
etc. Thing is, the .wav file has to be accessible during the presentation -
telling it what part of what song you want is not enough. It's easy enough to
put the songs on a cd with the powerpoint presentation OR you can just keep
the cd in the cd rom drive during the presentation. There are other ways too.
