Why can't I exit Word and Outlook?

When I try to exit Word and Outlook the screen locks up. The only way to get
out is to use the "Tools Recovery Application". This started in November
along with the screen being distorted, is there a connection?

some screen related issues, it would be worth updating the display driver
(and probably the printer driver also - depending on what you mean by the
screen being distorted).
