Why can't I click in the document?

Now that I need to cram to finish my project, Word 2007 decided to start
preventing me from clicking within the document! I can click fine everywhere
else, including the ribbon bar, just not within the document. The document is
not protected, it just won't let me click in it. Then when I close the
document I get a pop-up that says Microsoft Office Word has stopped working,
and I need to hit an additional close program button for it to close.
