WHy can't i acess microsoft sites?

I am having a problem accessing some microsoft sites such as Microsoft.com, MSN.com, sometimes windows update, and most importantly .NET passport login. I am currently here at this site via AOL browser. The AOL browser will allow me to get to the .NET pasport login page, but it will freeze up and never actually sign me in. Anyways... can someone think of what might be causing this? I formatted my computer to try to fix it, but it did no good. Thanks in advance

without doing a clean install you won't get rid of
malware or trojan/worms. it sounds like a worm/trojan.
