windows exporer is unresponsive for 45 second when either opening or deleting
a file ,doesnt matter what kind of file it is ( jpg bmp wmf excell word etc.)
and it doesnt matter if i right click , double click , use the task pane, or
use the menu bar at the top of the page, still takes 45 second or so to
respond. if however i open the corresponding program and select the file from
the programs file menu it will open immediately. this is my third time
posting this so i really hope someone can help.I tried adjusting the size of
the page file- that doesnt help. PC info: Gateway 507 GR..Intel P4
processor..Windows XP Home .

Start > Run > msconfig > OK
Go to Startup tab > Click "Disable all" button
Go to Services tab > Tick "Hide Microsoft services" then click "Disable All"
Click OK > Choose "Restart"
See if problem still exists. If not then run msconfig and :
Services tab > Choose "Enable all" > Reboot and check the problem. If it doesn't
appear then :
msconfig > Startup tab > Tick some items > Reboot > Check > Tick some items > Reboot

You need to provide more information. What is the computer model and
configuration? What is the history of this problem? When did it start?
Has it ever run well without the problem? Did you try a system restore to
before the problem started? What changes were made to the system - hardware
and/or software - right before the problem started? What is the malware
status of the computer, and how is that checked?

What happens in safe mode? Restart the computer, as the BIOS splash screen
disappears repeatedly tap the F8 key to get the Advanced Options menu,
select Safe Mode, click enter. Login to the problem account. Does the same
behavior occur?

Does this happen in all accounts? To test create another account, then
logout, restart the computer and login to that new account. Does the
problem exist in that new account?

Windows Explorer and My Computer run at *exactly* the same speed. That's
because they are exactly the same program. My Computer is simply a
particular view of Windows Explorer.
