That is assuming that it's possible to uninstall Real Player without
using a blowtorch or a hand grenade. Twice, before I knew better, I
removed it, (once along with the equally rotten Quick Time) by
reformatting my entire hard drive. The third time (after tracking over
5,000 changes it made when it installed!!!), I removed it with two
passes of the System Suite uninstaller, two passes with the usual
Install Shield/Microsoft method, plus assorted hand registry edits. My
computer has never been quite right since then.
Real is the only company that's even worse than AOL and Yahoo in their
contempt for the unsuspecting end user. Anyone disagree?
Richard
Can't disagree. My last Real install was v8.
268k IC5 record shows 992 keys, 1073 values, w/6 dlls in Win/sys
CLSID entries can't be located for hand removal without a record
like InControl5. CLSIDs are randomly generated by whoever wants one.
There is no requirement (or means) to report generation of a CLSID
to MS. In fact the whole thing is designed to not require a central
repositary.
Here's some of the worst I've run across for reg bloating:
MS Visual Studio = 32,230
Windows Media Player9 = 7,358
AVP antivirus = 2,000+
FixIt utilities = 1,440
MultiMedia JukeBox = 1,200
JExplorer = 1,000
Salamander file manager = 883
Add MS to AOL, Yahoo and Real.
Best advice is to use an uninstaller like TU and make your decision
on the spot so you can get everything removed 'automatically' without
the hand work.
