VideoLAN doesn't do realplayer files...?

I've seen several postings about VideoLAN so I thought I'd give it a
run and see for myself. I like VLC---I like it alot. It appears to be
an almost-all-in-one solution for media.

With the exception that VLC doesn't do realplayer files, and MPC
does---with the proper real alternative codec.

It appears that the better choice is Media Player Classic with a codec
pack, but only because MPC+Codecs can play one more filetype than VLC.

Are there any compelling reasons to dump Media Player Classic and go
with VLC as the primary media player? Is one better than the other or
should we use both? (I'd prefer to use only one if I can get away with
it...)

Your comments are welcome and solicited. Thanks for responding.

You need both, VLC as the normal videoplayer for mpg wmv avi etc..
Associate these extensions with vlc exe file so the program starts
automatically when you click on a movie clip. Media player classic for
rm files.

VLC is the better player because it runs well in fullscreen mode, it
has all kinds of settings, like make the movie lighter for dark french
films, or badly lit home videos.
Slow motion in 3 steps, fix color problems, increase color saturation
when lacking, doubleclick takes you to fullscreen, rightclick screen
choose stop.

The only feature I miss in VLC is the possibility to set loop points,
so the movie replays the same interval over and over. Haven't seen that
feature in any other player either.

Both are excellent. VLC provides me with better general playback and
playback customization; Media Player Classic handles subtitles *far* better
and generally has a better UI, in my opinion.

Agreed. If they'd fix the UI, I'd dump WMP completely.
