Why can I only see half of my citation (ie. name but not title)?

When I insert citaions into my footnotes I can only see the name of the
author and year but not the title. It appears to work with some and not with
others, but I can't spot anything different between the different entries.

Which "style" are you using? You should not see anything other than
author and date under most systems, but Word is so stupid that when
there's more than one item from the same author & year, it doesn't
give you "2008a" and "2008b," but inserts the title instead. (In
"Chicago," where this is totally wrong behavior.)

The styles provided with Word 2007 are in-text citation styles, not
footnote styles. In-text citations normally contain a lot less
information that footnotes: author, date (and sometimes title) versus
almost everything you entered in the source form. The title is only
shown if the same authors have multiple works produced in the same
year.

'Theoretically' Word 2007 allows you to create your own citation
style. It's not all that straightforward according to most people, but
it is possible. If you are up to it, the site in my signature can help
you in creating your own style.

In which style is "the title" supposed to be "shown if the same
authors have multiple works produced in the same year"?
