Why aren't links between tabs in same workbook automatically updat

I have links between cells in a single Excel workbook, but then I change the
data in the source cell it is not consistantly updating it in the linked
cell. Is this common and how do I fix it?
 
If you mean links like this
=Sheet2!B1

See Tools>Options..Calculation
Set it to automatic
