Why are Outlook messages reported as Notes instead Messages?

Avis (I Try Harder)

All Outlook Messages have been converted to Notes, and all new incoming and
sent messages are treated as Notes. The Message icon appears but when you
try to move the message to a folder, it appears as a Note. When you click on
New Mail Message, a toolbar Attach as Adobe PDF appears even though the tool
is not active on the View Toolbars. Message were OK on Tuesday morning. I
ran Roxio Creator to backup the PC because of a scheduled power outage.
After the backup, the symptom appeared. Any ideas of why this is happening
and how to correct it?
