over the past week I have posted a question on the front
page client newsgroup, getting started help & support
newsgroup, making it rock customizing newsgroup.

On front page my question appeared for a while and then
disappeared, and after posting on the other two newsgroups
those sections are no longer available. If my question is
so terrible, why doesn't someone just email me and tell me
that this kind of question is not allowed? What I wrote
follows:
(and if you do not like it, at least have the courtesy of
letting me know!)
As I have built a front page web I would now like to
create a customized desktop icon that I can send to my
friends and customers so that they can click on it on
their desktops and go straight to my site. Is this
possible? and if so, how?

Instead of using a web-based newsreader, use the newsreader in Outlook Express.

An easier way to read, post, and find newsgroup messages:

Mailed and posted:

Your best bet is to set up Outlook Express to read newsgroups instead of the
horrible web access.

Go here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=171164&product=oex

If I am able to read everyone elses, and also this one,
why haven't I been able to read my previous posts? It
doesn't make sense!

First do what Carey said. Or download an official newsreader like FreeAgent.

2nd, to create an icon on the desktop like you wish, just right click a
blank spot on the desktop, choose "New" and then "Shortcut" and type in the
URL of the site you wish.

When you use the Outlook Express newsreader, you can easily
find replies to your posts by visiting a newsgroup you posted
to and going to View > Current View > Show Replies to my
Messages from the Toolbar.

You'll need to go to the next page, and keep going until you find it. New posts are added to the top of the list and older posts don't show up on the same page. Type your name in search and search.

Switch to OE for your newsreader, you can mark your posts as watched, have them sorted to the top of the list, very easy to find them that way. OE is much easier to use.

I stronly disagree with the need to use the outdated and
tired application of Outlook Express to view these NGs. I
use IE6 with exceptional success and can do all that you
suggest with the simple search option at the top right of
my displayed page(and more). Outlook Express is old, worn
out and not worth installing on your system. I use the web
reader and have no difficulties what-so-ever. While
Outlook-Express maybe a viable option I do wish you would
stop perpetuating the myth that it is the "Way to go".
Keep smiling.

And Free Agent is easier yet! Not to mention it has some functions and
capabilities that OE doesn't. :-)

If you think that, then you clearly don't know how to use OE correctly. Can
you mark messages that you replied to as watched and then sort the page by
watched at the top, so ANYTIME you come back those messages are right on top
waiting for you, no searching needed? Of course you can't cause your using
the inferior web based news reader. It may work ok for the occational
browser of newsgroups, but ANYONE who uese these groups as a tool uses a
news reader app, not a web based newsreader. Not to mention the speed loss
you get on the web newsreader. I'd probably lose four hours of productivity
a week if I had to use the the web reader all the time.

Carey has it right. You are using a stone-age tool! Do not listen to the
Unknown P, his view is his alone. Outlook Express is great. You will love
it. By the way, it is not unheard of for posts to vanish into the ether when
servers have problems. Sometimes hundreds of posts just "go away." However,
depending on which method you use to view newsgroups, DIFFERENT posts will
be missing. If you have both methods enabled, you can play them against one
another in the event of server problems.

By the way, you e-mail address looks real....Prepare to be spammed.
Addresses are electronically harvested from these newsgroups on a regular
basis.

Instead of using a web-based newsreader, use the newsreader in Outlook
Express.

Sounds like the words of yet another HTML homer.

Free Agent
X-News
Gravity

All better alternatives to Outlook Express OR the noObs choice IE.

You can also go to the site that you want and then grab the little "e" in
the top-left corner of IE (the one in the title bar) and drag it to the
desktop to create an icon to that site.
