Why are my e-mails staying in Outlooks outbox after hitting send?

When I compose an e-mail and hit send it goes and stays in Outlooks outbox. I
then have to hit send and recieve again in order for it to send. How can I
resolve this?
 
It doesn't send immediately. It will stay in the Outbox until the next
polling for mail, which you should have set up for every 10 minutes or more
in the Send/receive settings.

I'm experiencing the same issue with a particular email that I'm sending as
a reply to a client. Outlook is set to check send/receive once a minute.
Yes, I'm connected continuously. Other email written since this one have
been sent. I've never had a problem responding to this client's messages in
the past. Any suggestions?

That's too short and many encounter problems with that frequency. The
recommended minimum interval is 10 minutes.

Thanks for the feedback... Did something happen this week that would change
3 years of successful use of Outlook with this setting? I have been able to
respond to this client's email consistently until yesterday. I haven't made
any changes to my system in the past month other than the automatic MS
updates. One would think that if this was a critical parameter that MS would
have set it as a minimum and not allowed the user to poll the server more
frequently than 10 minutes though. But, I have no idea. I will set this back
and forth and see it has any impact on my ability to reply to my client.

Only you can say, since whether such a short interval would work reliably is
dependent on your environment, not on Outlook. However, if you'd peruse
this newsgroup, you'll see that people have been recommending this minimum
for years.
I will set this back and forth and see it has any impact on my ability to
reply to my client.

Note that I never claimed it would affect youre particular problem. I was
making a general comment in reponse to your description of your send/receive
interval. However, if Outlook does not have the time it needs to complete a
full send/receive task prior to the interval starting a new send/receive
task, is can cause problems.

There appears to be plenty of time for all the accounts to be processed. It
doesn't outwardly appear to have any conflict while processing the 15 tasks.

I one machine on my network that regularly has problems with email being
trapped in the outbox. I'll check it.

The thing that stumped me about the problem I'm experiencing here is that it
involved only a couple of contacts within my client's organization and not
all. It was only when replying to a received email. I could initiate an
email and send it to the contact who I was trying to reply with no problems.

I'm using Outlook 2003 on XP Pro SP2. I'm just scratching my head. Thanks
for trying to help.
 
Debbie I have Office XP pro and I have only recently started to have this
problem with Outlook. Before when I composed an e-mail and hit send it went
into the outbox and then was sent after a few seconds. Now, however, it will
stay in the outbox if I did not hit send again. I have changed nothing with
my PC or software settings besides Norton Internet security updates and
Mircosoft updates. Hopefully someone else will have the answer to return our
outlook use to previous interface.
 
Just for giggles... I tried to reply to one of the emails from yesterday
that was causing the problem and it worked just fine. Who knows, I sure
don't.
