Why are my e-mails disappearing after I read them?

I used to able to read my e-mails and when I opened them up one or two days
later they would still be there. Now when I read them and exit out of
Outlook, they disappear. I do not auto archive my mail and I keep losing
important mailings

You probably have your view set to "Unread Messages". Click View>Arrange
By>Current View and check "Messages"
