Receiving a task request is no problem, but I am unable to open or accept
them, and the sender and I are both using Outlook 2003, only I am using the
Pro edition, and the sender is using Small Business edition. Any ideas why
this is such a problem?

Why can't you?

When I receive a task request, it does not open, not by double-clicking or by
right-clicking and selecting "Open." I'm also not able to "accept" the
task and thereby add it to my personal task list. It simply sits in my Inbox.

Do you get any error messages? Have you tried closing and restarting Outlook?

I am having the same problem, I get no error messages, I have tried
restarting outlook. It is exactly as descibed:
Clicking Accept or Decline has no effect, neither does a double click or a
right click open.

Thanks
Chris

2/28/07: I get the exact same problem that ChrisD describes. The only time I
get any error message is when I try to drag and drop the Task Request from my
Inbox into my Task List. I get the following error message:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Can't copy the items. The property does not exist. The field you want to
modify is not valid for this type of item.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I can assign a task on computer #1 (XP Pro with Office 2k3) and accept or
decline on computer #2 (same config). However, I CANNOT assign a task on
computer #2 and accept or decline on computer #1. The Accept and Decline
buttons do nothing and I cannot open the Task Request. HELP!

This a known problem with recent updates to Outlook. See other discussions in
this forum for details. Microsoft has not fixed yet.

I'm having the same problem as the others. I can receive assigned tasks in
my Inbox, but I can't open them. I can, however, assign a task to someone
else (who has no problem opening the assigned task), and I can see the "Task
Accepted" come into my Inbox, but I can't open that either. I can open the
"Task Completed" but not the "Task Update". The only common thread I can see
is that the "Task Completed" has the regular open envelope icon next to it
and the others all have a variation on an icon that looks like a hand with a
check mark and a closed envelope.

I have tried the following (with no success):
* Inbox Repair Tool
* Compact Folders
* Uninstall & Reinstall Outlook

Is everyone having this problem using Outlook 2003? I'm wondering if
Outlook 2007 would work better?
