why all anti-virus vendores www pages resolving to 127.0.0.1

Hello all

i am running windows 98 , since last few weeks i am facing very
wiered problem , the problem started 2 weeks back when i tried to
access
http://www.trendmicro.com/ and i couldn't open it , then i checked
closely the same and found that its getting resolved to 127.0.0.1 ip
address , i thought might be some interminant problem with My ISP and
simply ignored this problem , then after another 3-4 days i again
tried to open the same www.trendmicro.com and same thing got repeated
again , so i felt there must be some thing worng so i changed DNS
IPs etc and then tried again but no luck then too.

then i tried to access other Anti-virus vendors like mecafee ,
NAI,CA,Symantic etc but all the www pages of all of these were
getting resolved to 127.0.0.1,
i tried to search on google for the reason and could't found any
reason for this , then after 15 days i came to know that one my friend
is also facing the same problem , exactly same issue of resolution of
all AV vendors www pages to 127.0.0.1 the only difference is he is
using win2000 and i am using win 98


i am wondering why this is happening , any one having any idea ???
is there any virus/worm or trojan which can cause this ?????

Have a look at the "hosts" file in your windows directory. Placing
entries against 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file is one way of stopping
proper name resolution.
