Whole system acting up

I foolishly tried to install AOL Instant Messenger because that is what my
sister was using. As soon as I did, my Norton Internet Security and Norton
Antivirus quit working. I uninstalled AIM but now my MSN Instant Messenger
won't work, I can't get into my hotmail account from this computer (I can
get in just fine from the library) and no secure pages will come up. AOL is
no help at all. Also, many pages come up saying my security settings will
not allow ActiveX even though everywhere I have looked, it looks like I have
*enabled* ActiveX. I tried downloading the newest ActiveX but when I try to
install it, it says it cannot trust a cabinet file. I don't want to have
to reformat and start all over!

HELP! Please.

Just thank Microsoft for the System Restore function. Just hope that you
have not managed not to switch it off inadvertently.

CLick on System Restore and choose to restore to a time prior to AOL being
put on your PC.

If you need more information click on Help and Support then type in System
Restore to get all the good information.

Everything will be just as it was before: but even the data files created by
you after AOL will be saved.

Thanks so much for this, but too late. This happened a while back, and I
followed some instructions (thinking I had a virus) that turned off system
restore while I did the patch and that erases all saves. So, no can do at
this point. There must be some setting/s that I need to reset.
