Who Manufactured my modem?

J

JimR

I have an Intel(R) 537EP Data Fax Modem. The enum hardware id is
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1080&SUBSYS_10098086&REV_04.
I need to know the manufacturer so I can get the V92 driver.
Once before when I installed it I was given the option to go online &
download a better driver. Can I find out from the registry where XP
downloaded this driver from?
Any help at all will be appreciated
Thanks

Do you think - maybe - Intel, or someone under contract to them? You go to
Intel to get the drivers.

Thanks Mike & Richard, but your suggestions are too obvious. First of all
Intel says they don't manufacture the modem only the chip. I have been to
the web sight you gave and have downloaded the generic driver twice. It
works ok except for the V92 caller id. On that web page intel suggest you
contact the modem manufacturer for the exact driver for your modem. There
are hundreds of modem manufactures. How do I find out which one my modem came
from.
Thanks for the replies

Is V92 connection supported by your ISP?.. it may not be.. contact them for
more info..

Re. the actual manufacturer, this is very difficult to ascertain.. you are
right in saying that more than one manufacturer uses the Intel chipset, but
again, if V92 is not supported by your ISP, it makes no difference whether
your modem is V92 or V90..

You could try downloading Aida32.. it may give you the manufacturer but do
not hold your breath..

Your info given only leads back to Intel:

Remove the device from the computer and search for the FCC ID number.
Usually found on the backside on a sticker of sorts.
Go to this site and enter the number and good luck!
http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/
This usually works for any electronic type device however it is not as
complete as it was BR. (Before Republican)

Gentlemen, I truly thank all of you for your suggestions. However, I'm still
back at square one. The modem does not have an FCC number. It has a sticker
that says it complies with FCC specifications. No FCC registration required.
One last question(last hope), when I purchased the computer a year ago the
modem only half worked. When I upated driver i was asked "Do you want
windows to connect to the internet & download a better driver?" I said yes.
It downloaded a driver from somewhere & its worked fine until I reinstalled
XP.Someone that knows their way around the registry please tell me is there
a registry entry that knew where to download this driver from. If so please
let me know
Thanks again gentlemen

why don't you uninstall the modem and use the option to
"download from the internet again"

If the last driver came from Windows Update, there is an easy way to get
it..

Go to Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager - Modem.. open the
modem selection to reveal what you have installed.. now right click on the
named modem and select properties.. click on the 'drivers' tab, and then
follow the procedure to uninstall the driver..

OK out of there.. now go directly to Windows update..

I hate to say this but you consider just replacing the modem. If the modem is
a PCI add-on card, you can just buy a newer v92 card. If you can not locate
the original manufacturer, this may be the own way to get the proper v92 to
work.

well you can always try to go into intel and look for the driver
that will make your modem work
or go into driver.com and try looking for the driver that
way
