White screen at start up

At start up my windows 2000 boots up and then the screen
goes blue-gray for 10 minutes before normalizing. My
machine is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100. Any help?
 
Perhaps a hardware problem? The description as stated along with the
subject line does not sound like a software problem. Try describing what
you see on the screen as the computer boots up until the Icons and
Taskbar blink into view on the "Desktop"
