HELP:

I am am installing win XP on an AMD Athlon XP 2800+ (333MHZ FSB) with
an ABIT NF7-S motherboard (2GB RAM).

The system previous run with WIN 2000 Pro with no problems.
Two weeks ago I began to upgrade to XP (should have done a CLEAN
install but didn't).

The system was not running is a stable condition so I thought I'd
start FROM SCRATCH.

While trying to RE- INSTALL XP (booting from the CD) I get the follow
error (as listed above)
"adpu160m.sys file could not be found" Press any key to continue ...

The Prompt at the bottom of the screen says: SETUP FAILED Press any
key to restart your computer.

Ahs anyone seen this ...? How should I proceed to get around this
issue? Can I download the missing file and start again ...?

PLEASE ADVICE ...
Thank you
KJ

Hello,

Somebody posted a similar problem
http://www.short-media.com/forum/printthread.php?t=34739
(and in many other Google Groups thread)

It was due to bad RAM.

You may need to call for a qualified technician to check your computer. Or
if you think you are savvy enough, open up the computer and locate the RAM
slots. If you have two, remove one and try installing XP again. If the error
still happens, insert the RAM chip back and take the other one out.

If you only have one stick of RAM, you will need to buy another stick.

The best way to verify whether it is a RAM problem is to run a Memory test
here.

Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation are
most often caused by defective, incompatible, or sub-standard hardware;
in order of likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard.
On very rare occasions the CD drive or installation CD is the problem.

Start with testing the RAM. You might try MemTest86:
http://www.memtest86.com/ It's free. Then you can download and use the
hard drive maufacturer's diagnostic utility to test the hard drive. If
both RAM and hard drive test out clean, check with the motherboard
manufacturer for any diagnostic utilities.
