Which Uses More Resources

I would like to clear my desktop of Icons. Which uses more memory? -
Creating a new desktop folder to hide my Icons in or draging them all down to
the Quick Lauch tool bar. If the quick Launch tool bar is the better choice,
can it be spread out horizontally or must it be hidden to only pop up
vertically?

If you're thinking of disk space when you say "Resources" then
you're wasting your time. A shortcut consumes between 1 and
2 kBytes of disk space. An application such as Microsoft Office
consumes perhaps 120 MBytes, or as much as 60,000 shortcuts.
Even a simple application such as RealPlayer takes between 30
and 50 MBytes, or as much as 25,000 shortcuts. What
difference does it make when you knock out a few shortcuts?
None whatsoever!

Place your shortcuts into folders or into the QuickLaunchBar,
wherever you prefer!

You are stuck in the win9x way of thinking :-) XP is much better at managing
memory and resources. The only difference I have found is systems with many
icons on the desktop seem to take a little longer to boot up. Even that is
only a matter of a second or two. Any more than that then it's time to get a
faster system.

I suspect it makes no difference. Check the Task Manager
if you want to be sure.

These days you want 1 gig of ram if you are doing games or playing with
heavy graphics or video.
