Which DirectX version for WMP 11?

Which DirectX version for WMP 11?

I have videos captured in mpeg-4 format with Nero Vision 4. When I try to
open them with WMP 11, the file formats listed there do not include mp4. So
I have to call for All Files and then the mp4 files are shown. I have
currently DirectX 9 installed on my system. Is DirectX 10 necessary for
recognizing the mp4 files?
