Hello!

I had almost made up my mind to buy the Dell Dimension 9100 series as they are giving away a printer for free. But then i saw some posts on this forum that talked about poor quality of support from Dell so i am in two minds now.

My basic requirements is a reliable desktop intel pentium 4 or better, not keen on serious gaming, will play games only occassionally... basically need for home use, some graphics & web publishing, etc.

I want a nice, fast desktop and don't have the time to research and build one myself. My budget is upto about 700 pounds or so...

So, between the Dell, Packard Bell (from PCW), etc., which would be a reliable company or series to buy please? Any ideas?

Regards

why on earth would want to buy a pc from ( dell/packard bell) from pc world?
by the way printers dont cost much anyway
there are plenty of good online retailers where you can configure your own pc to suit your budget

Well....

I don't really trust online retailers. I heard of scan.co.uk for one... the brand names like dell, packard bell, maybe even evesham, compaq, etc. are known devils, vis-a-vis unknown online sites.

That's my main reason. I just want to have a good, reliable and fast PC, that's all.

well the final decision is yours but ive seen and read plenty "reviews" from the likes of dell, none of them anygood to be honest.
i woulnd buy a bag of screws from pcworld.
i bought my base unit from www.pcspecialist.co.uk and am very happy with it

HP are a good company to buy from and Dell are pretty good awell even though what people say ... me and my family and friends havnt had a BAD experience with Dell ...

ofcourse the best option is to build it yourself ;) ... or go into a local computer shop and ask them for a reasonable priced system and they could build it for you ...

I've used Dell before, the build quality is excellent as they use high qulaity products like Western Digital Hard drives, Samsung Memory and Samsung optical media (well they did on mine). The delivery was good and havent had 1 problem with it yet :).

doesnt really matter what brand u buy from. it only matters about the specs. just ocmpare the specs of some u like and buy the cheapest or most expensive depending on the specs/hardware

I,ve had a look at Pikakilla's recomended site PCSPECIALIST and the system i configured at a good spec came as a pleasant supprise around £900 any body know any more about them?
