Hello all, Glad to see this question asked of XP veterens.
I also have Word/Office 97 for Win 98 and want to use it
on my new XP tower. I found that it froze up for some
reason, so I set up the Compatibility Wizard for it, so it
can operate in a more Win 98 environment; problem is that
the spell checker won't work, as well as the Thesauras. I
found a MS Knowledge Base article - 257643 "WD97:
Spelling, Grammar not Available in Word Running on Win 2K
or XP". Although the article offers a workaround by
editing a couple of Registry Keys,I found little if any
improvement in either the spellchecker or the grammar
checker. Another strange problems exit with the Thesauras,
not even mentioned in the MS KB site, as far as I could
see. If I highlight a word that I want to replace and then
access the Thesauras, highlight the word I want and
click 'Replace', only the first letter of the word I
picked is pasted into the document. Any ideas about
fixing these issues? These aren't the Bells and Whistles
that someone spoke of, are they? Things ain't looking to
great at this point. Can standalone replacements be used
with Word?
Thanks for any help with these issues. RC

Hi Rene,

Go to Start/Run/EXPAND X:\i386\CSAPI3T1.DL_ C:\CSAPI3T1.DLL (Where X is your
CD-Rom drive letter). And then copy it to: Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

Or download the file here: Replace the Csapi3t1.dll file
http://www.tech-pro.co.uk/howto_010.html

An error occurred while the spelling was being checked.

Checkpoint: Go to Start/Run/Regeditand navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools

In the right pane where it reads: SharedFilesDir, verify that it reads:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared under Data.
