Which ATI card

Hi, I am building the following system and from the UK:

XP2400
512 DDR
Gigabyte Motherboard
60 GB hard drive
DVD Drive
and the usual other stuff

I want to put a good graphic card in and was wondering what ATI card I
should get. I am on a budget so I am looking for a card around £70-£80. I
might go up a little, but would like to know what prices and cards are
around in ATI, as I was recomended a GF 4 MX440, but heard these are cheap
and nasty. So a ATI card better than that I am looking for. Thanks.

Hi, I recently purchased Atlantis 9100 128M DDR for £76 inc Vat mainly
'cause posts on this group and other sources suggests it is based on the
well liked 8500 architecture ...I wasn't desperate for DX9 just agood fast
card for current games -- it performs excellently in my 1700 Athlon +256M.
It was stocked by e-buyed but think it's running down now replaced by
'better??' cards

What do you want to do with the machine e.g. watch TV and have video capture
capabilities, have TV out, DVI output or just a plain vanilla card with the
fastest performance at that price?

The answer you get should be related to your needs, including the budget
that you've already stated.

Hi, Mostly I want it to play games on, but may have a go with DVI, but don't
really need TV out as I got a dedicated DVD player.

I don't really know the models of the ATI cards, as most of my machines had
Nvidia in. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Have a nosey here: http://www.blisware.com/ati_graphics_main.htm

It has links to very good comparison charts of different ATI based products
and with competitive UK prices. If you can still find any Radeon 8500 based
cards around (perhaps at computer fairs), they will also provide adequate
game performance at that sort of price range.

Get a Radeon 9000 (really an 8500) - way better than a Geforce4 440MX
(actually a GF2) and superb value.
A good brand like Hercules or Gigabyte will be issue-free (the same can't be
said for the ATI-built card).
